John Zmirak is a Senior Editor of The Stream, and author of the new Politically Incorrect Guide to Catholicism. He received his B.A. from Yale University in 1986, then his M.F.A. in screenwriting and fiction and his Ph.D. in English in 1996 from Louisiana State University. His focus was the English Renaissance, and the novels of Walker Percy. He taught composition at LSU and screenwriting at Tulane University, and has written screenplays for and with director Ronald Maxwell (Gods & Generals and Gettysburg). He was elected alternate delegate to the 1996 Republican Convention, representing Pat Buchanan. He has been Press Secretary to pro-life Louisiana Governor Mike Foster, and a reporter and editor at Success magazine and Investor’s Business Daily, among other publications. His essays, poems, and other works have appeared in First Things, The Weekly Standard, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, USA Today, FrontPage Magazine, The American Conservative, The South Carolina Review, Modern Age, The Intercollegiate Review, Commonweal, and The National Catholic Register, among other venues. He has contributed to American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia and The Encyclopedia of Catholic Social Thought. From 2000-2004 he served as Senior Editor of Faith & Family magazine and a reporter at The National Catholic Register. During 2012 he was editor of Crisis.

Rod Bordelon is a senior fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Rod Bordelon’s extensive experience leading major state regulatory agencies and implementing reforms includes over 30 years in insurance, workers’ compensation and legislative affairs. Rod specializes in government agency regulatory and legislative advocacy, legal analysis, coalition building, and public speaking. His work includes successfully adopting medical cost containment guidelines and pharmacy formularies in workers’ compensation, and advocating free market reforms in all lines of insurance. An eleven-term gubernatorial appointee, Rod was appointed as the Public Insurance Counsel by Governor George W. Bush and reappointed by Governor Rick Perry, and appointed as the Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation by Governor Perry. As Commissioner he implemented extensive reforms to the workers’ compensation system in Texas, resulting in significant market performance improvements and cost savings, a fifty percent drop in the rates of insurance premiums and increased performance within the regulatory agency. Rod is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and South Texas College of Law in Houston.

He has spoken in China, Cuba, Brazil, Australia, Europe, Israel, Greece, Egypt, Bangladesh and Turkey. He leads frequent study tours in Israel, Greece and other countries in Europe. He has served on the boards of Baylor Health Care System, Dallas Baptist University, Mercer University, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, B. H. Carroll Theological Institute, Howard Payne University and the Center for Christian Ethics at Baylor University. He earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion and a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Dallas Baptist University. Before founding the Denison Forum in 2009, he served as pastor of four churches in Texas and Georgia. His wife, Janet, is a published author and speaker. They live in Dallas and have two adult sons.
