From 2003-05 he was Director of the Office of Research and Analysis at the National Endowment for the Arts. He is the author or editor of ten books, including Negrophobia: A Race Riot in Atlanta, 1906, The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future (Or, Don’t Trust Anyone under 30), and The Dumbest Generation Grows Up: From Stupefied Youth to Dangerous Adults. His commentaries and reviews have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, New York Times, Weekly Standard, Commentary, The New Criterion, Chronicle of Higher Education, New York Post, Partisan Review, Yale Review, and many other periodicals.
