Dr. Charles Mutua Mulli* was born in January 1949 in Kangundo, Kenya; the firstborn in a family of eight. At the time, his parents were living in extreme poverty. When Charles was just six years old, they left in search of better living, abandoning him to the care of his aunt, who was also impoverished. She had minimal resources to support Charles, let alone her own children. However, with the help of the community, Charles underwent elementary and intermediate education at Kathithyamaa Intermediate School, completing grade 8 in 1966. He earned certificates in evangelism and basic accounting in 1967 and 1968, respectively. Charles completed several other workshops and seminars, and thereafter, through correspondence, pursued short courses in Evangelism and Theology organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in 1993, and Youth Evangelism and Leadership sponsored by Youth for Christ International in 1994. In 2009, Charles Mulli was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree in Humanities by the United Graduate College and Seminary. In 2011, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Social Work from Kabarak University. Dr. Mulli is married to Esther Nthenya, and together they have eight biological children. Although the realities of operating Mully Children’s Family presented challenges over the years, today all of Charles and Esther’s children have shed their resentment and embrace MCF with love, compassion, and concern for the orphans they serve.
