Robert J. Hutchinson, the author of “Searching for Jesus,” is an award-winning writer who studied philosophy as an undergraduate, moved to Israel to learn Hebrew, and earned a graduate degree in New Testament studies. For the past 30 years, he has earned a living as a writer. He has written for many national publications, including Christianity Today and the National Catholic Register, and won awards from the Associated Church Press, the Catholic Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists/Sigma Delta Chi. An avid traveler, Hutchinson was once the managing editor of Hawaii Magazine and the Hawaii Bureau Chief for The Hollywood Reporter. His other books include “The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Bible” and “When in Rome: A Journal of Life in Vatican City.” And while Hutchinson attended Catholic high school in the Seattle area, he wrote what he calls “New Testament fan fiction,” short stories that re-told the Gospel accounts but with more historical and geographic detail. Then at Seattle University, a Jesuit school, he audited graduate-level theology classes in New Testament while concentrating his studies on philosophy. After college, Hutchinson moved to Israel to study Hebrew. After returning to the U.S., he earned a master’s degree in New Testament and theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, an evangelical school in Pasadena, California. Hutchinson blogs regularly at his website. He lives with his wife and children in a small beach town on the West Coast.
